How to Install Rear Reflector?

I am in the process of installing a replacement rear reflector (black lettering) on my 79 SC. The reflector uses the clips.

Question:
Do the clips go on the reflector studs and then the whole assembly is pushed into the panel back panel?
Or, do the clips go into the back panel and then the reflector is pushed into the clips?

Just set reflector stud thru openings and push clips from inside. I used a socket to push clips home.

Thanks, Vince,

but I am trying to avoid getting behind the rear panel. I don't want to take the muffler off, etc., if I can avoid it. There must be away to just push the reflector into the panel without any major diassembly. Weren't the clips, instead of the screws, designed to do just that at the factory car assembly line?

The clips can only be installed from the back side. Dropping the muffler is no big deal. I just did this twice because I didn't mount the bumper seal before installing the reflector.

If you are asking about the metal clips that fit over the plastic studs on the rear of the reflector, the answer to your question is the clips should be aligned in their respective hole so that they are vertical and grabbing the sheetmetal correctly. Therefor I think the latter. Either way, start at one end and press both top and bottom in then work across.

On my 82, I installed the clips from the front and once in place, i pushed the reflector into place. Not a big deal. Taking it off is a different story. You run the risk of cracking the studs.
