CIS Starting Problems
 

This problem started suddenly, when starting cold (garage is about 100 F) it will just crank(fairly fast because I just installed a high torque starter). I can get it to start by removing the air cleaner, turning the key on and lifting the air valve until it squeals. This is a PITA. I also found that if it is whipping over I can push the accelerator to the floor and release it when it hits. This method always has some backfiring involved. If it is hot and been only shut down for a few minutes it will start right up. If hot and sitting for several minutes starts by priming or pushing the accelerator all the way down and release when it catches ( pow-pow). This problem turned up right after I installed the high torque starter and some alternator problems.

My best guess is the temp sensor or cold start valve but why would it be hard to start when hot.

Year?
Both yellow wires hooked up to the new starter?
Fuel pressure readings will be needed to help figure out the problem.
Most likely loss of residual pressure. Bad check valve at the pump,bad accumulator,or leaking fuel line etc.

I guess I will go with the fuel pump check valve. When turned off for a little while and then turned back on you can hear the pump building up pressure.

I had one of those banjo fittings with the check valve. I did not know what it was until yesterday. Removed the crimped on banjo fitting, inserted, clamped the check valve, leak test and primed. This was not easy as the space is limited under there.
Started fine this AM.
