Well, good answers... but only partially right!
I guess it is a bit obscure, but you never know with some of the experts on this board!! The piece is actually a tappet out of a '73 MFI pump. Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection says he has rarely seen this failure, but as you can tell, a small piece broke from the tappet and lodged itself in an inopportune place - the number three MFI plunger gallery. This caused a very difficult to diagnose running condition. Basically, the plunger in the MFI pump siezed in place and stopped pumping fuel to the number three cylinder. It wasn't until I removed the hard line coming from the MFI pump with the engine running that I notice a dry hole! Anyway, Gus fixed me up and I will be re-installing the pump tomorrow. As expected, it appears Gus did a very professional job on the rebuild, although I must say it took a full three months for him to turn it around. So... sorry for the obscure pic... has anyone seen this part on the inside of an MFI pump before? JA |
Nope...I've never seen it before. But I'll bet that most OB/GYN's have seen stuff you've never seen before. :D
