Can You Guess What This Is?

The small piece that is laying next to the larger piece broke off in a very rare failure incident.

Broken?

Blinker fluid actuator.

Well, good answers... but only partially right!

I guess it is a bit obscure, but you never know with some of the experts on this board!!

The piece is actually a tappet out of a '73 MFI pump. Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection says he has rarely seen this failure, but as you can tell, a small piece broke from the tappet and lodged itself in an inopportune place - the number three MFI plunger gallery.

This caused a very difficult to diagnose running condition. Basically, the plunger in the MFI pump siezed in place and stopped pumping fuel to the number three cylinder. It wasn't until I removed the hard line coming from the MFI pump with the engine running that I notice a dry hole!

Anyway, Gus fixed me up and I will be re-installing the pump tomorrow. As expected, it appears Gus did a very professional job on the rebuild, although I must say it took a full three months for him to turn it around.

So... sorry for the obscure pic... has anyone seen this part on the inside of an MFI pump before?

Nope...I've never seen it before. But I'll bet that most OB/GYN's have seen stuff you've never seen before. :D
