exhaust

I've heard sc's with headers through a two in two out muffler. Boy was it loud. I would go with SSI or equivelent heat exchangers with the muffler you want. Of course this is if finances allow, thats the only reason I still have stock exhaust. Damn mortgage!

If you do need heat headers are cheapervand you can find a decent used set here. Having them ceramic coated is a good idea.

Search threads with the word exhaust and you will find a plethora of info ranging from $100-$800 for the exhaust.

Good luck.

If your 83 Carrera SC has the original exhaust, the exhaust routes into a cat, therefore, you have 1 pipe inputting to the muffler, so you can't get 2in/2out. You can cut into the stock muffler and add two outlet pipes. There are pictures floating around showing how you cut into the canister, weld in the pipes, and weld it back shut. That picture was for a 2in/1out oem muffler, so I don't know if it would work on a 1in/1out.

Think like a hot rodder,man!!!

I used a 1in1out FloPro muffler(sounds/looks like a Flowmaster). I have the Euro premuffler with stock heat exchangers. If you can weld or have a friend that can, you can make your own setup for less than $100.

check out the ultimate exhaust thread here. I have some video posted there.

well, if you are running an 83 and have to get through emissions, I'd be careful about doing too much to the exhaust. I don't have to do emissions and I have a 74 911 muffler and 74 911 exhaust system on my car. The 74 exhaust is basically two uneven curved pipes (think header) without catalytic converter, two out style, going to a 2 in 2 out (was a 2 in 1 out) muffler. The heat shield allows me to use my cabin heater still. If you do not care about cabin heat, then I think your fine to go headers or a 74 exhaust set up, just plug the heater hose holes in the engine bay tray so you don't kick up a lot of water or road debris (gravel, sand) up in the motor bay.
Once you set up a 2 in 2 out exhaust you'll see an increase in power. Those mufflers can get expensive though. But I have been told that you can use most mufflers that will fit back in there. Some also remove the lower valance completly and polish or paint their muffler so the fit is not a concern.
