First post! Let me please introduce myself
Hello Pelicanites!
After spending the last 18 months lurking here, reading both Wayne's, B. Andersons, P. Zimmermans books, countless Porsche magazines, daydreaming, wishing, hoping, searching and convincing (my wife) that it was a good idea for me to replace my reliable and comfortable '00 BMW E39 528i family car with an old 911, I finally pulled the trigger on one! It is a RoW '80 sunroof delete coupe with 76K original and documented miles. It has the 930/09 engine (8.6 CR 188 hp/195 lb ft torque) with Carrera tensioners, pop off valve, pre-muffler (no cat) and air pump. It was imported into Ohio in the '80s, but has spent most it's life in Tucson, AZ. It was originally brown, but has been changed to Guards Red and has another repaint since. The paint is the only weak point so far, as there is overspray and areas that were missed under trim that can be found. It's about a ten footer, which is OK with me because she will be a driver and I really don't want to worry about meticulous paint! I have records and receipts back to the early nineties that showed it has been well maintained and cared for. Some of the bigger ticket items were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear synchros replaced 20K miles ago, recent replacement of heat exchangers, tower strut bar, cross drilled rotors and new calipers. There is still work to be done, but it's a great starting point. Well, here are some pics now that I've rambled for awhile. I look forward to being a contributer to the site and Porsche community as I am on the Jeep enthusiest sites I'm a member of. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Now I'm going back to my dream car, the car I've always wanted since I was in high school in the '80s. In fact, my first car that I got going into my senior year was a '73 240Z. Loved it! After a minor fender bender, had it painted Guards Red! Unfortunately I totalled it on my way home after my first semester of college. My sports car days were over for a long time. The BMW was responsible for rekindling my desire to drive a well balanced and great handling car with some speed mixed in for some fun. If it had a manual tranny instead of an automatic, the decision would have been more difficult because it was almost the perfect car. But that's the thing. I don't WANT a perfect car! I prefer character and the flaws that come with it. I could have easily have stepped into a 996 and had all the modern comfort and conviences. My wife thinks I'm nuts!! |

Congratulations on the purchase. Some nice personal touches on that car, looks like it was owned by an enthusiast.

My friend with the Corvette Z06 drove my car for the first time tonight and could not stop smiling as he tried to break it loose in tight fast corners. This is a truly special car that is so much more than the sum of its parts. Congratulations. It looks beautiful from where I sit.

Welcome to the 911 ownership madness. That is one very looking SC you got there.
The only question I got is: Why did you get rid of your E39? Why not both...?

Don't think I didn't think long and hard about it. Any E39 with a few tasteful mods makes for a brilliant ride. My oldest daughter will be turning twelve this fall and I was wanting to keep it to pass to her when she starts driving at 16. Maintenance and repair 4 more years on an aging BMW plus an old 911, YJ trail Jeep, '71 Gladiator Jeep, wife's '04 Diesel Excursion, '99 Southwind MoHo and you get the picture!! It's a good thing I don't have a drug habit! Speaking of pictures, heres the BMW and Jeeps. Biarritz Blau 528i ![]() '95 YJ I've owned since new and have perfomred all mods and fabrication ![]() '71 J2000 Gladiator I've owned since '02. Last year I finally dropped in the motor I built for it in '04.....It hauls ass and surprises people at stop lights! ![]()

Okay, what the heck, why are all your engines so clean? You must have a severe case of OCD like me but I wish my engine was that clean
