Post Anyone in the Carolinas?

Just moved to SC and was wondering if anyone was from the area and knew of any good bodyshops. Sick of looking at the 13 year old paint and interior. Plan on stripping and making her new again. Painting, especially restoration, especially on these cars, is art. I'm looking for a P car specialist. I'm in Columbia but will travel of course. Geeze, sounds like one of those personals.

Hey rcilurso,
I'm new to this board but live in Wilmington,NC about 3.5 hrs away. I have a great shop here called Motioneering. They are restoring and modifying my 69 911E. Great wrench, body work and painting. They are a full restoration shop and also do performance modifications. I know it's a long drive but I can really vouch for them. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that I found them. Otherwise my poor car would still be sitting at my mother-in-law's. Welcome to the Carolinas.

That wouldn't happen to be the red 911 with crash damage out in the lot would it? I called Motioneering about that car. Was hoping it was a parts car; I needed a nose. Damn! I was *this* close to coming out in the middle of the night with a plasma cutter...heheheheheeh

BTW I'm in Raleigh, and Kenny Hawkins Automotive is the place to go IF you get his brother to do the job. None of the other insurance-repair-grubbing-monkeys they have there.

dtw,
No mine was/is a blue one. Tom, the owner just bought the engine from a twin turbo that the owner had crashed and killrd himself and wife(girlfreind). Actually the engine was all that was left of the car. Motioneering gets some preety awful cars to restore some I don't think are worth it but the owners of those cars seem not to care about the expense. If I hadn't had my car since 76 along with an emotional attachment I probably wouldn't have started on it. But my wife said do somthing with the car and get it out of her mother's garage. Now she complains about the cost but at least I'm doing something about the car. HE HE

I live in Charlotte now but lived in Columbia for a year. did not see to many pcars there and dont even think there was a dealer. The porsche dealer and other high end car dealers in charlotte use Collision Specialties in indian trail, NC 704-882-1150 this guys body shop is a few minutes outside of the city.

Rcilurso:

Please be wary of Motioneering here in Wilmington. Myself and another local Porsche owner ran into problems with Tom. I will say he knows more about Porsches then anyone I have ever met. But I was very disappointed in the service and bodywork he recently did on my car.

Please email privately and I will give details. I have checked all over Wilmington and most mechanics recommend Porsche in Cary, NC.

I have heard good things about Rennsport in Charleston and I can't remember the name, but there is another shop in Florence that specializes in Porsches. Check out the PCA Hurricane club for a recommendation.

Thanks all for your replys. My car is an 87 Targa that is pretty rust free and straight. I'll look into all you've mentioned. I just want all the data I can get before I pick. It seems everytime you go to look at work they show pictures and cars of all the stuff that has gone right. Lord knows how many have gone wrong. First hand experience from guys on this board is valuable to me. Thanks again.
