Big money for Marginal Early S?

How many incorrect items? $70K. Sure seems optimistic to me...

I would think you should get the sport seats that the car originally came with.

As to the color change (both int./ext.) , I quess that's in the eye of the beholder.

Missing quite a few engine pieces. Wrong thermostat hose. No cover on the electrical panel. No hot-air feed on the air box. Wrong front horn grills. No beef with the seller, but in this market you'd think they'd make it correct. Guess not.

Exactly.

And if the car isn't rusty, it's a better than "marginal" early 911. Not perfect by any means, but looks pretty much all there and in good condition.

Is there supposed to be a cover over the fuses in the engine compartment?? If so what does it look like and are they the same for the 74s? Thanks

David, why do you say it's marginal?

Have to say I am a bit confused about the marginal statement, since the seller doesn't provide enough data to form an opinion one way or another.

Considering the value of the Euro, $70k is not that much, not that he will get that much, but that's not the issue, what makes it marginal? Rot would, a blown motor would, poor cosmetics inside and out would...

I have to admit marginal was the wrong word. How about incomplete?

It's a 40 year old car, that was made in relatively small numbers. The difference in valuation would be big, but there are very few 72/73 S's around that are in excellent and original condition (all original interior, original paint, etc.) So when you do find one for sale, the sky can be the limit.

Most have been repainted by now, many have been colorchanged, many have lost things like sports seats over the years, etc.

I'd view this particular car, overall, as a somewhat above average example. Pricing is always difficult on these, but with this being (1) a Targa, (2) a color change, (3) missing the sports seats and some other bits, I'd say this car is probably a mid-high $40s car in the current market.

If you spent $15K-$20K on a repaint in the original color, sports seats, and putting some of the other details right, you'd probably get a good chunk of that money back on a resale.

So, when you say "but with this being (1) a Targa, ..." of course you meant that that raises the value, right?

Sorry, couldn't resist stirring the pot on the unending debate. Of course I think my S Targa is more desirable than a coupe because of how I want to use it. I looked specifically to find: a Targa, with sport seats, in factory silver. I've had it for almost 10 years now and love it.
