1977 911s not starting
Hi there, I just recently purchased a 1977 911s 2.7 that has been sitting for years, Ive changed a bunch of thing on it and now it tries to turn over but does not. Below is a list of things I have done and changed:
New Battery, New Started, New fuel pump, new gas (I drained the old), new fuel filter, new plugs, new rotor and cap, new belts, cleaned the warm up regulator. The fuel pump works perfectly well, but even after draining the fuel isnt coming out completely clean...also when I click the ignition (But do not turn the car on) a faint whining sound comes from the distributer that comes and goes. When the car tries to turn the distributer cap does turn, could it electronically bad? Also, I played around with the idle adjustment and no luck. Any one have any ideas? or steps I am missing here. Thanks for your help |

Or that the engine is not turning over? As in the starter is not turning over the engine? Quote:

Spark or Fuel - do the basic checks for each. A spare spark plug outside the engine and grounded will tell you if you are getting spark - so will a timing light. Pulling an injector will tell you if you are getting fuel.

It could be as simple as the fuel to air mixture not being right for the temperature outside.
An old thread where I posted photos and what to expect. CIS rich to lean adjustment - 1977 2.7L

Yes the engine is cranking ok but it does not fire up, there is a whining sound coming from the CDI box but there is also another weird whining sound coming from near the distributor.
Rex, you mentioned checking the piston at the fuel distributor, where is this located? I checked the coil against a ground and there is a spark, I will also try pulling an injector to see if I am getting fuel. Thanks |

CIS Primer for the Porsche 911 The fuel distributor piston or plunger moves up and down with the air flow plate - more air intake means more fuel from the fuel distributor. The plunger should be a loose fit - it will fall right out if you are not careful. It is a close tolerance fit so be very nice to it (no sandpaper).
