Engine compartment wire problem.....

Please look at the two pictures, can anyone tell me where the wires marked in the pictures is supposed to be connected?

I am in the process of restoring my car and have overhauled the engine, engine compartment, under carridge and components in the engine compartment.

The car is a US delivery 1971 911 2,2S

Thanks
John

John, the red with white should go from the center fuse to your speed switch, which I don't see on your console?

Hang on I'll check the wiring diagram and get back to you on the others

White with grey goes to the Auxiliary start relay

Red with white stripes would go to your rear window for de mist.

Grey appears to go to the license plate lights

The brown with white has me stumped the only reference that I can see is for a buzzer US market only.

I hope that helps

I had a look at my 72 and my take on your wires is:
Picture #1 the red with white dots wire connects to the red with white stripes wire in picture #2. That wire should go through the parcel shelf to the rear window demister

Picture #2 there should be a grey wire that connects to the rear plate lights via a pair of wires clipped to the lhs engine lid bracket (brown to earth, maybe that brown with white dots wire that seems to connect to the earth stud?) Also there should be a grey with white dot wire that connects to the solenoid on top of the fuel filter assembly.

Can you help me, in the following copy of your picture, is that the connection to the fuel pump that I have labelled? If so, can you please tell me what route it should take to get to the fuel pump, a photo would be great, your last photo is a bit blurred and I can not make it out.

Thanks Tony and the friend from NZ!

I will see if I find your suggestions on the wire diagram for the 71S(I am not very good at reading them.....).

The speed relay/speed switch is out for repair!

Best

Well that explains the speed switch!

Just doing the same thing with my car, with new heat shrink and terminals where needed. Labeled it really well when I removed the loom for a complete resto. Problem is when I unpacked it to work on it have the labels had come off.

I have now found out where all the wires goes. I will post updated pictures with explanations later.

The grey/white dots wire that has faded to a brownish color with white dots for the start solenoid on top of the fuel filter is correct according to the 1971 911S wire diagram. The black/white wire that sticks out from under the electric panel I am not 100% curtain of yet, but I think it might be for a two stage rear window heater. I think the red wire with white twist connects to the red wire with red dots(a bit strange that the wires are slightly different).

I agree with your conclusions, it all matches my 72 wiring

In your second picture, you have a braided wire attached to I assume an earth on the body. Where does the other end attach to as I have mine just dangling loose and the car won't start ? It looks like somewhere at the regulator ?

It grounds to one of the 3 bolts that holds the aluminum piece that has the fuse panel and ignition stuff attached
