Anyone ever used Turtle Wax??

I know Zymbol is the thing around here, and I must say the last time I used it the car turned out great. I have a 1982 SC black on black, with a serious case of road rash and few scratches (previous owners doing, not mine). I just picked up a bottle of Turtle Wax Color Cure with Chipstick for black paint, hoping it will fill in some of the scratches and chips. What do ya think?

I used a colored liquid wax for my Black 911 (Before I went ape-***** on modifications) and it didn't work at all...I through the stuff into a box. I think it it was called Dura-color.

Perhaps technology has changed.

Regarding wax: I use Meguire #26 yellow carnuba. Zero polishing compounds or cleaners. I use it rarely though. For the most part I use Meguires final inspection.

I tried the color magic stuff on my black 911, I still have almost a full bottle, any offers?
Seriously I wasn't happy with it at all. The chip stick is a total waste of time. You'll get results just as good with a black crayon.

One of the nice things about black paint is that it is the easiest color to match. Get some black touch up paint, prepare the surface, carefully fill in the larger chips and scratches, then sand carefully with extremely fine paper, nothing rougher than 1500. A little polish or glaze and wax, you won't be able to tell there was ever a scratch there. There's plenty of tech articles on how to do this around, just be patient and careful and you will end up with good results. Just start with one that isn't consicuous and after you perfect the technique move onto another. Eventually you'll vave em all taken care of.

To get the fine scratches out of the black paint I use 3m perfect-it polishing glaze and a power buffer with a foam pad. you have to be careful with any power buffer but the perfect-it is pretty forgiving when you use the foam pad instead of a cloth pad. They sell two different versions of the pefect-it, one for lighter color cars and one for dark cars.
Then I follow it up with a higher quality canuba wax. Most recently I tried mother's canuba wax, it works pretty darn good for the price. I think it was around $10.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into getting a bottle of touch up paint.

I have a black metallic 81sc and use either the three steps of Mothers or Mequires and for the third step always use either ones carnuba past wax.

Zymol is way overpriced! Have you seen some of their stuff that costs about $2,000. I am a Zaino fan, but also use Meguiars.

Hi Doc... that rust is on a my pre-911 '71 Camaro.. that paint job is about 5-6 years old.. I was getting ready to do the paint job again.. and saw a good pic in waiting.. that black has NO wax on it.. and the rust was included to remind me that it was a flat/no orange peel, beautiful paint job I was about to tear up.. also that car lived out doors 24/7 on a sandbar.. so when I hear comments about black I get excited.. the shine was maintained in the wash technique of Imron paint.. pretty exotic pic, IMO.........Ron
