Did they service "regular" cars at Weissach?
My '78 SC was originally purchased in Germany and I'm fortunate to have the original German owner's manual. It's a very early '78, the chassis # being 9118300015, telling me it was the 15th RoW SC built. Looking at the owner's manual I've noticed a Weissach address in some of the servicing stamps which struck me as odd since I always figured Weissach to be a technical and race prep center rather than a maintenance shop. Here's a scan of the manual page...

Euro delivery or Euro car..service was done at the factory service center. They did that on Euro delivery cars that were driven on holiday prior to the return to the USA.
This books shows a lot of miles in Germany. They did service at Weissach. |

Look at your build date. your car is the 5th made not 15th, 1-10 weren't used, you might have a preproduction car. Is Dr Ing. h. c. F. Porsche listed as the first owner in the owners manual?

The 60,000 km maintenance Kilometrage recording is kind of odd; "25523" with a date that look like 04/06/8x which fit between (time wise) the 40K and 80K Kilometer sequence. Maybe the mechanic was dyslexics...

That 25523 for the 60000 km service was probably 55523 or maybe 52523. Perhaps just a mental slip or a bit of dyslexia was the culprit. Regardless, the whole thing with the chassis numbers is certainly interesting...

I'm under the impression from being told, that 0001 to 0060 were "reserved", by Pelican fellow TL-REGISTER; "It always starts with Car 0061 - first 60 VIN´s of each MJ. are always blocked for testcars (except the 1989 US-Speedsters ) " I had done some research for the 83 Cab year and sure enough I could not find any number prior to 00061, who is well and alive in California, see First 911 Cab In Canada???

Dr Ing. h. c. F. Porsche is shown as the first owner, yes.
It's fun to think my car was beaten on the test track a bit ![]()

They didn't let it sit much. 25k miles in the first 9 months.
Check the engine type. Maybe one of the 3.1 sport engines. |

This sounds like a candidate for EXCELLENCE magazine.
Pictures will follow, correct?

When I bought it in '05.
![]() Original color was Continental Orange. A previous owner had it repainted India Red. It's a bare-bones car. No sunroof, no power windows, no A/C. It does have a power driver side mirror and the auto-heat. I'll have to check the engine type. An Excellence article on pre-production or test cars would be interesting I think.

It sounds like the real deal. The production date would be the clincher. If the door jamb vin sticker is gone you could pull a Gage and look for a date stamp. I wouldn't pull the speedo it has the possibility of being changed in the past.
The fact its a no option car is another hint of its past. Preproduction cars only had the options that Porsche was working on, like new options. Executive cars were loaded with options.

Neat car with a neat history. Maybe it was a member of the family's car or a high-level executive's, such as Helmut Bott.
