paint code
I have a euro spec 911 1970 with a paint code that reads 467-h anybody know this code, I can not find it in any of the charts
|
Troy, would you mind posting a photo of that please. That is not even the usual format for a 1970 code. I suspect that it is a custom color, and may be unique to your car. A COA on the car might be very interesting. About all I can say at the moment is that it is likely a brown shade.

This thread had a similar color that they discussed. It looks different but it may just be the lighting in you picture

Try this color
Casablanca Beige Metallic' or (in German) hellrotbraun |
463 opal metallic
464 tabac metallic (tabacco) 474 palisander metallic (Rosewood) are similar paint codes, but from the late 1970`s |
Try the Early 911S Registry BBS. Someone ther may know.

Mercedes had a paint code 467 in 1970 made by Herberts later DuPont Herberts called Sand Beige which looks very similar. Thoughts? |

Here's another picture and a link to mercedes paint code http://www.classicway.de/compare.php |
I think you may have found the answer. If the original poster can somehow compare the original color to the Mercedes color, and say it is a match, then problem solved. I have been researching these codes for several years, and can say that the badge posted above is one of the most unusual I have seen. So I suspect that the paint is a custom order. If it turns out that the Mercedes list compares well to the Porsche list of codes, then we have learned something very important. It would help me identify many other custom codes for which even Porsche seems to have no information. We know that Porsche borrowed from the VW paint codes, and it is not a surprise that they could have "borrowed" from others. What we might learn from this is that the paint manufacturers made up the code list, and the car manufacturers used the code list. Porsche used different codes on the cars up to 1971 MY, then used the 3 digit code on the badges from 1972. However the earlier codes do map to the 3 digit codes.

The paint on the mercedes looks alot like the paint on the car now I always assumed the car had been resprayed but now im wondering. going to have to check a little deeper.

Thank youy all for helping me solve this paint issue I do believe the 467 h is a mercedes color used by porsche, the car was originally imported to thailand could i still get info on the build from porsche

Mercedes Color.

Yes, the factory should be able to provide the information. Basically get a COA from PCNA. However, I doubt that they will have paint info. Usually they will just have the code for custom paint recorded, not the actual code on the car. I'm beginning to doubt the factory kept records of any custom paints such as this.

The paint on our early cars was one of three suppliers. Glasurit, Lesonal and Herbert. Herbert also supplied to Mercedes. I wonder if a purchaser could have specified a code other than what was advertised on the standard and special orders paint chips?
|
I think possibly so, maybe to a vip or something. I am 99 percent sure this herberts 467 is the paint on my car
|
Yes, there were two levels of custom paint. The lower level was to choose an existing paint that had been previously offered or, as in this case, an existing paint from one of their suppliers. The upper level was a paint to match a sample supplied, and in this case the paint supplier would have to create a new formulation and verify the match, thus there was an additional cost.
It seems fairly obvious that if a customer could supply a paint code from Glasurit, Herberts or Lesonal then the factory would have no problem acquiring the paint. |
