This is a repo Fuchs correct?

1987 They are too perfect to be real. Does anyone recognize the maker of this wheel?
Thankshttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312072571.jpg

plumb4u2 07-30-2011 04:53 PM

that looks like a correct marking....any pics of the front?
shouldnt it have a part # marking also?

rhart 07-30-2011 05:13 PM

Thats why I think its a repo. Here is the other marking. I don't see a 911**** number on it and the wheels are way too perfecthttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312074798.jpg

Thanks guys. I think maybe the 911*** number is under the brake dust. Guess I gotta do a better job of cleaning.

There's your Fuch fox right there.

WPOZZZ 07-30-2011 08:27 PM

Nah, they're fake. I'll give you $200 for the set.

J/K They look real to me as the fox head is there along with the part #.

Your part number should be right above the fox... see mine:

dude, those are the real deal.

BTW, that's a darn nice looking cabby you have there.

"They are too perfect to be real." ?????????

Check out the number of threads on this board that discuss wheel refinishing and related topics and you'll realize that the wheels were probably just well cared-for and/or refinished by Al Reed, or another quality refinisher, or by the PO.

It is also possible that aggressive abrasive cleaning of the inside of the wheel (e.g. to remove brake dust staining) could have degraded the clarity of the part number. But the remaining markings sure look real to me.

Seeing the red calipers also indicates that someone spent a lot of time on the area inside the wheel wells.

Very nice look cab, btw.

The weight itself (or lack of) is normally a dead giveaway, even without seeing the factory markings...they're the real deal.

Sometimes you get lucky and find a set that somebody took care of.

Joe Bob, the triangle is not a Fuchs logo.

It is the logo for an OEM part built for Porsche. You will find that logo on original Bosch lenses, Koni and Boge struts, etc.

Joe Bob 08-01-2011 08:00 AM

Yeah...went and looked again. The triangle AND the foxhead are a good sign.

"Fuchs" means fox in German hence the fox logo. As real as it gets, lucky you.

rusnak 08-01-2011 10:02 AM

The triangle is the Porsche logo. It's the stylized "P" that appears on everything from tail light lenses to distributors. Since Porsche owns the dyes that Fuchs uses to forge the wheels, the stylized P makes its appearance on all real Fuchs wheels.

Those were apparently refinished, so it would probably be normal for the markings on the back to be diminished in clarity and depth. I'd value them at slightly lower than original untouched Fuchs.
