How the heck do you get a wrench on the crankshaft pully? My 83 has all kinds of braces in the way? Im trying to put the engine at TDC to prep it for Carrera Chain Tensioners. Help!!!!!!

Remove plugs to lower compression..then just use the fan nut & belt to turn the engine? I've never done it, but that's what I'd try...

Paul is right ... use the alternator nut, but you don't even need to remove the spark plugs!

I hope you are planning to change the chain ramps as part of your upgrade! If so, you will need to support the rear of the engine, and remove the cross-supporrt, AND the rear engine mount 'console' ... to get to the four shoulder bolts that retain the inner four ramps.

Or use the spanner used to hold the pulley with belt replacement to turn it. You shouldn't have to remove the plugs to turn it over. If you have too many belts in the way, just loosen them up and remove them for the time being.

Ok....I know this is a stupid question, but I too was going to install the carrera chain tensioners on my 83...highly recommend chain ramps too or a nice to have?

Ramps are cheap and highly recommended.

I didn't replace mine when I did mine last year, but I should have. I think since you are already in there it is just way easier. I haven't had any problems with mine. They looked good so I didn't replace. I just hope it doesn't come back and kick me in the A$$

Ramps are cheap insurance. They just take a little more time to install. A lot easier to do now than have to put them in later.

If anyone is planning a Carrera chain tensioner install, I have a brand new set of ramps I will let go cheap. Just send me an e-mail.

as you turn the alternator nut/pulley clockwise, push in on the right side of the belt, halfway between the upper and lower pulleys, with your fingers, so the lower pulley will be gripped better. some turn ok without pushing the belt, some don't.

Great input guys! Thanks I was messing around today but only had the belt slip. I have the car in nuetral but so far no dice. Guess I will have to remove some plugs to lower the compression. As for guide rails, already ordered them. I've had several Mechanics tell me they often fail even before the tensioner itself!! Thanks again!
