Post oil drips?

I have a couple of drips that are annoying me. They are not bad, so maybe I should count my blessings and shut up. But I do have a few questions: It appears that one leak is from the area of the strainer. Maybe the gaskets are crapped out. Do I dare tighten these up a little? The other leak looks like it is on the center seam on the bottom of the motor. Again, do I dare put a torque wrench to any of these or will I make it worse? I probably leak 1 quart in a yaer. Is that reasonable?

Are you crazy? I think 1 qt a year, even if it is parked, is almost negligible! I drive my SC 200 miles/ month, and I leak 1/4 qt in that time. I think mine still falls well with in factory spec (as someone here was kind enough to tell me). I think you should be happy! (and sorry, I don't know any thing about torquing them down).

Factory spec? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Porsche specified that their cars WOULD leak??? Good one.

????? That isn't an oil leak! The car is letting you know that it still has blood in it's veins.

Even so, you can use the "caserole dish" technique which I like. Take old dish out of kitchen and place it in exact spot where you park every night. You can monitor the drip amount that way (cardboard, pizza boxes, kitty litter, etc just soak it up).

Do NOT overtorque those 8 bolts. Remove plate, get 2 new gaskets, and like 4 quarts (someone help me out here)of oil. Replace gaskets and use a little sealer. IF that is your problem, that will solve it.

Thanks for smackin' me over the head guys. I guess I'm just a fussy pain in the fanny.

I must have posted at least 25 versions of this over the past year and seven months, but ...

It isn't bad gaskets or M6 nuts that aren't tight enough!

The sump plate has been 'dented' or distorted out of shape to the point that the area around the eight holes in the sump plate are up to 1 mm higher that the surrounding flange area, and the daskets can't comply with that much variation!

You can flatten the sump plate flange area with a hammer or mallet, and sometimes a little work with a file. After that has been done, do not use more than 7 lb-ft of torque on the 10 mm nuts, and it takes a 1/4" drive torque wrench to get accurate readings at that low setting -- 84 in-lbs!

Guilty as charged Warren! I can personally say that at least 2 of the posts about flattening sump plate were directed at me!
