Wooden ramps to elevate car

Greetings,

Over time I've noticed pictures of garages where ramps have been built to drive up onto, elevating the car so that (I assume) it's easier and roomier to crawl underneath. I'm wondering if anyone would like to share their experience with building such things as I think I'd like to build a set.

Most probably you have seen the ramps that are placed to accomodate a scissors lift.

Wood will hold alot, if engineering properly. Do you really want to waste that much room for those things tho?

I'm probably going to make some solid ramps soon to do rust repairs on the jack points of my DD.

As stated above, wood will hold up anything if engineered properly. We've ramped 200 ton working cranes on jobsite with engineered hardwood ramps. The downside is weight, if you plan on keeping them in one spot all the time wood will work just fine.

I made these (modified a little for strength). Used them with an F350 diesel dually, no problems:

What I'm after is a ramp that would span the front and rear wheels providing four to six inches of lift...just enough clearance to allow for more access under the car. I think it could be accomplished using two or three 2x10s screwed/bolted together, etc.

I did a set with 2"x10" or maybe 11". I don't like the "box" idea because I am a chicken. We used to have a set of metal ramps. My cousin drove his Celica on them and bent them. Of course, because he didn't align them right, but still.
If you search on Scissor lift on this board, you will see many people have them along both sides of their scissor lift. I made similar but 4 pieces, each at each wheels, so that my car would be around 3" raised.

I made some ramps out of 2x pressure treat. They're stronger than any plastic ramps you'll find and probably most steel ones. I made them because I used to have a Miata and couldn't find any ramps with a low enough angle.

I plan on making some wood platforms for the 911 to facilitate jacking the car up.

I have almost identical ramps, just made from plastic rated at 4 tons, almost the exact same design. Nice DIY

I have some sets of 6" timbers that I shove under there after I jack it up.

make sure they are nice and wide...

for those in doubt, look at your 16ft garage door openings, what do you think is holding up the rafters+plywood+shingles+snow (for those up north).

i have been thinking about something to drive the car on like above. but to make it worth while for the size (storage) and weight in order to make it strong. plus, too make it high enough without tipping over to make it usefull.

something like above would be great for doing suspension adjustments, just remember to roll the car back and forth so it can settle between adjustments. if you have scales, you could make a recess for the scales to fitt into so you could just drive right onto them. IE, the top of the scale would be the same height as the ramp.

when my car was scaled, it was put on a lift then set down on the scales that one on these short stands, probably not much taller than the ramps above. then ramp would be much easier.
