Exhaust question...
81 SC - I think stock. Recently aquired.
I was pokeing around under the car getting familar and assessing condition. I was a little surprised to find that part of the exhaust just under the cylinders was not rigidly fixed to the exhaust pipe coming off the head flanges. Both were similarly moveable. I believe this is what is called the heat exchanger(?). Is it correct that these move somewhat relative to the engine? This bit.... ![]() |

The metal surrounding the exhaust tubes is not tight. If you were to remove the metal you would have headers, sort of.

Thanks Wayne. That what I was thinking. I believe they are there for the heating air to circulate over the 'headers' to provide the heating. Is this correct?
