Cool Amelia Island Concours--WOW!

What a great time! My wife treated me to a weekend on Amelia Island for the road tour, auctions and concours. Perfect weather, several hundred incredible cars and over 50,000 people today at the Ritz-Carlton, next to the Atlantic.
We drove her 986 on the Friday road tour along with over a hundred classics dating back to the 'teens. It was great to see people actually driving their irreplaceable Duesenbergs, Rollers, M-B 540Ks, etc. The Ferrari and Aston Martin guys were out in force, but there were a lot of fellow Porsche owners on the island, too. And every P-car owner I passed this weekend flashed or waved!
The 356 Carrera cab featured in Excellence this month won it's class (1960-1974 sports cars) over some very tough competition. Ray did an outstanding job on this car.
And lined up in one row--904, 906, 907, 910, 908, 917, 956, 962. And no Cayenne (sorry).
Got Bobby Unser and Dan Gurney's autograph and talked to Brock Yates about cars and college football (the Gators,of course)!
Gearhead heaven, man.
In seven years, this has really become a big event for us southeasterners and if you ever get the chance, go!

Sounds like a great event.

Can you post a shot of the 904 through 962 lined up like that? Must be one heck of a picture...

What a great weekend. My husband & I were drivers for the auction. One of the cars I drove was the triple black 1955 356 from the Nicholas Cage consignment. It went for something like $62,000!! The yellow RS was also his. I think all the Porsches sold. Mark you calendars for next year. Both the auction & the Concours are great!

Doesn't look like the Cage cars came through. I'll try again...
