Fixed the alarm!

Finally after going through and finally finding the Alarm control unit and the alarm relay. We tested everything and took apart the alarm unit and lo and behold a burnt solder joint in the alarm unit not allowing the fuel pump to get fuel. After a resolder it's finally running and the real cleaning/updating/tuning can begin. The mechanic said atleast having it sit there kept the miles off of it at 21k. It turns out the old mechanic took the ground for the alarm to move for the new radio which shorted the alarm.

Good Lord, what a hot mess....I've been trying to track down some hot start issues, and finally may have tracked it down to an alarm wiring harness as well.

You'd think we were driving MG's, Jags or freaking Land Rovers sometimes. "Bulletproof" motors with electrical systems thrown in as an afterthought, it seems. I realize it's the aftermarket stuff which throws the cars off, but I've never had these types of issues with any other vehicle I've ever owned.

Anyways, it's always good to hear when somebody does a DIY and figgers it out.

Hope the electronics didn't take a hit (burned=usually not good).

Tested the resistors and board and everything was running fine. Now time to clear up the dust that settled on it... Also are there any places that sell silk grey shift knobs? I noticed pelican only has black...
Much deserved pictures (still torn apart while I'm at it gotta get the little things I bought for it put back in...)
In the background there's a Z28 and an assortment of R129 SL mercedes.

Can anyone comment on those relays? I have no idea why they're all red is this something worth switching out with the brown/black ones or is it suppose to be like that?

Now that it's fixed consider removing it.....

chococrazy 08-03-2011 11:48 AM

Alright just gave its maiden start. It's going to need the gas tank bled as it was smoking more than a can seafoam would make it smoke. Also any recommended brands of oil and which type of oil? My local shop carries Mobil 1 Castrol and Royal Purple. I'm guessing go with royal, but need to know the viscosity it takes.
Oh and while fixing it I put a SW chip in it...

Valvoline 20/50 VR1 Racing....

chococrazy 08-03-2011 11:54 AM

Local doesn't carry valvoline :/

Joe Bob 08-03-2011 11:56 AM

Auto Zone.....order it. Take a look at the ultimate oil thread.

chococrazy 08-03-2011 05:38 PM

Oh darn one thing after another.... The car took 10L of oil 5 of them were VR1 racing and the other 5 were Valvoline Conventional 20w/50 (the guy messed up the first time around).

But a finally check revealed stuck calipers as I'm working on these calipers should I upgrade to brembos or the sort or stick with the stock ones and get them rebuilt/new? If brembos anything that will fit under stock fuchs?
