1. What chip for 84 911? 2.Big Reds..

I live in PHX and removed stock exhaust and installed a header system from Rennsport and put a Flowmaster 80 series on.
Reading from files past, I still cannot come up with a chip to buy (or NOT).
I understand timing and fuel are changed with a chip. Is this true? Can anyone recommend a good chip? Keeping in mind the summers are 100+. Any other inexpensive external mods?...

Of course, every two years I gotta go back to stock assembly for DEQ.

PS. I may be selling my brakes to a friend in a 71, has anyone put on the big reds a carrera?

i have a weltmeister. It'll ping with 91 octane which is all i can find. Be prepared to add octane booster to your gas you will need 93 octane minimum.
yes, it lives up to its boast of +20 HP at the higher rpms as witnessed in my other posts on 0-60 times and hp.

Something to be aware of: Early '84 chips were solered in the board (not socketed).

If you put Big Reds on, you will have to put 17" wheels on as well. They won't fit under 16" Fuchs.

Right. Something to keep in mind. You have to pick up a desoldering kit at at Radio shack and suck off the solder and resolder in the new one.
Ask warren about the details of putting a slug in there so that you can swap chips in and out. I didn't. I just soldered the new one back in.
If it starts, you did it right. If it doesn't...

so at least you'll know right away.

Do you have a picture of your exhaust? Thinking of doing the same and would like to see your configuration. Thanks.

does the chip get remapped to suit the application or is it one chip for all, straight off the shelf??

Has anyone ever tried the "program" from the Racer's Group - located at Sears Point in California? They claim to be able to have a similar output as the weltmeister, and the chip can be re-programed each time a new modification is made to the engine. In all reality, wouldn't the engine need to be tuned each time your were to change the air filter (say to a K&N), or a free flow exhaust?
