Hello,
What is the widest wheel & tire that will fit under a midyear's narrow rear flares? Will 16x8 fuchs fit with 225/50 tires? Thanks, Tom

A 951 offset, 16x8 will fit with a 225.....depending on the tire manufacturer, you may need some neg camber and/or fender massage....

Tom:
A 16x8 is not gonna fit unless its a 951 offset. I attempted to stuff a 15x8 under my old '74 Targa and it was not pretty, the rim will stick out from beyond the fender no matter what tire you run.

225's on 16x7 Fuchs here. And rolled fender lips to fit that.

Thanks for the info. I did some searching to try to find the answer as I'm sure it's been asked before, but my keywords must've been bad choices as I came up empty.

Keep up the search. There must be 50 good threads here on wheel/tire fit issues.

All of these cars are slightly unique. What fits one may or may not fit another even if both are bone stock. Generally however you can get a 225 in the rear with some creativity and or luck plus rolled lips, stiff rear tbars, and either a 15x7 or preferably a 15x7r offset wheel like a Revolution wheel. Once I even had a pair of 930 front Gotti wheels that would fit a 225mm tire under the rear of my mid-year bodied 912E. Lots of choices and options out there.

wider wheels on a narrow body
I had 15x7 wheels widened to 15x8. Did roll the lips and have 29mm bars. Did not have to add negative camber. No clearance issues with a 215/60. Not as much rubber on the ground as a 225/16, but over 8 inches of tread width and no rubbing ever. I like the fact that I am not wearing tires out on the inside edge anymore.
