Help, seal problem.
 

During my rebuild of a '65 911 engine I have run into a roadblock of being able to identify the correct seal, within my top end gasket/seal kit, for the chain cover to camshaft face, and appears to be spring loaded. None of the seals in the various kits that I have resembles the original seal that is in the chain cover, which is now very hard and beginning to crack. Is there a new configuration seal that does not resemble the old, or is this seal a separate item no included in the top end rebuild kits?

Each radialrubberseal has his size or a ordernumber on it. Sometimes you need a magnifier to see them. With this number you can go to the next industrie dealer and ask for Goetze or Kaco reference catalogs.

Now as far I can follow you must have the pressure feeded camshafts. Those seals are not in the normal Kit as those engines are mostly became updatet over the years.

Those axial seal rings had been made from different materials. I think they are coalrings runing on the hard camshaft face.

Thanks for the feedback on this axial sealing ring. I will attempt to find the seal thru the Goetz or Kaco source. If that is not successful, I wonder how difficult it would be to fabricate a similar type sealing device from thick wall aluminum tubing containing a compressable seal which would ride against the cam oil input port?

I wonder what the engine rebuilders use for replacements of this axial seal ring?

Just call up at companys that rebuild the early engines or race engines.

I think steve weimer is working on them too.

Also AASE or Stoddard are good sources.

I think I fetched them at Porsche. They have a little boxes with sacred parts in there Werk I workshop.

I believe they are Porsche part # 901.105.592.01, still available thru Pelican/Porscheas of 2/7/04. Check dim to be sure as they are $50+ bucks/copy.

Steve I imagine he already got the part as this thread is almost 3 years old!
