5000rpm and thats it

my 82 sc has developed a serious stumble at 5000rpms when accelerating from a start or a roll on the gas like getting on the freeway. while at a stand still i can rev to redline and no problems' where do I start? once warmed up it seems find though I don't rev to 5000 when on the freeway and in 5th and there is good aceleration. She just pulls very good and smooth. I'm running a bypass pipe with otherwise stock intake and exhaust. org ignition, new plugs, and wires, cap and rotor., fuel fiter is 10000 miles but it's taken 4-5 years to get the miles Could the filter be the problem?

The filter is a good guess. I would change it. Your description could easily be fuel starvation under load. You might couple that with a fuel treatment like Techron to free up the rest of the fuel delivery system.
