1971 Euro Ride Height Specs
Can someone confirm the European ride height specs for a 1971? "101 Projects" indicates that the rear spec is 12mm and the front spec is 108mm (center of torsion bar to center of wheel) for the "early cars".
Since I would need to have the car aligned by a mechanic even if I did the work, I'm going to have a mechanic just do the entire project. I spoke with a mechanic today who was, I think, painting a worse case scenario for me. He went thru all the things that could possibly go wrong in making this adjustment and the questionable nature of the benefits. Questions: 1) Is there any problem in particular (i.e. broken/stripped/frozen bolts, inability to obtain correct camber settings, etc.) that commonly occurs in this project? 2) If the car is simply lowered to Euro specs, is bump steer still an issue that needs to be dealt with? 3) What is the practical limit beyond Euro specs before tire clearance becomes an issue, assuming stock size wheels/tires? Thanks! -- Curt Last edited by cegerer; 03-11-2002 at 05:15 PM.. |

Wayne's numbers are correct for ALL cars prior to the 'bumper' crop ... as there was never any distinction between USA or European, or any other market's cars before the silly US bumper height laws came about!!!
In other words ... anybody bragging about having a pre-74 car 'lowered to Euro specs' is either: A) lying, or B) talking gibberish about something which he/she/it knows nothing!

Warren,
That had always been my understanding. UNTIL I read "101 Projects". In it, Wayne clearly differentiates between US and Euro ride heights for "early cars" and lists US specs for 1965-1989 911's as all the same at 99mm!! That said, I'd still like to lower my car slightly. Any comments on the other concerns? Thanks. -- Curt |
