Boxster Propaganda

Anybody else get an unsolicited package from Porsche this weekend? I thought for sure it was more stuff on the Cayenne. It's not. It's a fancy curved silver box. Open the lid and there's a mini-blueprint of the orginal 550 Spyder, a video tape, an 80-page color book on the Boxster, a letter and a Car & Driver reprint! It's quite impressive. Too bad I'm not interested in purchasing a Boxster. Maybe a good eBay item though .... -- Curt

How do you guys rate so high to receive all the cool stuff from Porsche? I don't get crap. I even bought an Audi from the Porsche dealer, but still nothing.

I have no idea why I get all of this stuff. They have been sending me stuff for years. The best one was the poster of the airborne 930 with my last name on the rear license plate. Still got that one up on the garage wall! -- Curt

If you are (or were) on the mailing list for Christophorus, you get a lot of this stuff sent to your address. I'm saving it up...it may be worth something in 20 or 30 years.

On a (sort of) related note; saw a TOTALLY hot-rodded black Boxster today, it was pretty cool. I'm not a huge Boxster-looks fan, but the addition of the "batmobile" twin-bubble thing behind roll bars does wonders for the lines on that thing, IMO. Wish I had my new digi-camera, (this week), it actually looked purposeful.

Those are called speedster humps. I will post a picture of my car with them on if it OK. I am getting them painted now and they will be done in one week. They do change the look, although personally I think the boxster looks perfect from the factory, it just keeps getting better. I just wish us 911 owners could live in harmony with the boxster owners. Speeder dont be afraid to admit it if you like the boxster as well as the 911. They are both nice in their own way.

PCNA buys the mailing list from Excellence, too! That's how I started getting all the boutique and Tequipment brochures and catalogs, because THAT mailing label is one of the very few still using a five-digit ZIp code!

Warren? Thanks...I wondered why, since I cancelled the factory mag a couple of decades ago. Keep the tape? Uh, looked at your (vinyl) records lately, and wondered what to play them on? Gosh, guess I'm old.

There's a Boxster redux movement slowly gathering among the race fraternity. When talking to local race wrenches about $ to performance ratios [and how lousy they are for many 80's 911s] the discussion turned to the fact that used Boxters were getting cheaper, and close to the point where stripping out the weight might make a great value mid-engined track car.

Might be some lightweight Boxster-rods on the track before too long??

I'll tell you something, all this talk of performance, my 2000 boxster goes like hell. My 74 911 is no match, I will say I like the 911 look better, but the crisp manuevering and quick throttle response as well as modern ammenities of the boxster is what made me put the CASH down.

I was going to be a bit nasty here. But I changed my mind. Statement edited...by myself, before posting.

Yeah, PWD, it's likely best you didn't say; "Boxster Propaganda thread just became the Boxster Agenda thread"

. .. or were you going to say "Go to . . .uhm. . .Haven "

Whoa - before I get stamped with a B-sign.........

Just reporting what sounded like pure heresy from confirmed Pcar track guys, some of whom see the potential for a next generation 914 under all that overpriced, overweight boulevard glitz.

Me? I've got my 3.2 engine and trans apart, lovingly being rebuilt.

But a ROW 2.7 '74 - '77 and a host of other early '70s 911 would be. I'm not trying to be confrontational, it's just an interesting note....

To actually think there are people who put there life on the line for freedom of expression, freedom of choice, and we have others in our own country who want us all to think and act only as they do or they try to put us down. It reminds me of something I just cant put my finger on it.

I like Boxsters, because they are the most minimal, lightweight car made by Porsche, but what makes me sad is what could have been. I posted these pic's already on another thread, but anybody see the original Grant Larson concept Boxter? (spelling correct, they added the 's', along with several inches & hundreds of pounds, when they made the production version)

My thoughts exactly. I was *so* looking forward to it's release.
And then it came. . .Bigger and looking like it lost a fight with a jellybean. We all saw Mazda transform a Lotus in to the Miada. It seemed a no-brainer for Porsche to transform the great 550 Spyder in to a refined lightweight super-machine. Well, they missed that mark. They are not bad cars, they just missed.

So, nobody will post on the pictures? I just love the concept car, it seems to me that it catches the essence of the early 911, lightweight & pure. Or am I nuts, as many have suggested?
