no start condition

I have a 77 targa, 2.7L motor, all original. Having a problem with a no start situation after I pulled engine/tranny for rebuild of 915 trans. Did some rewiring that p.o. cobbled up. Got everything ready to go, turned ignition switch on, nothing. Did all cursory checks, electrical including 14 pin out connector. I bench tested starter, worked fine. Installed, nothing. Removed starter again, disassembled, cleaned solenoid, bench tested again, worked fine. Installed, no start. Have voltage at terminal 50 and 30 with key in start position. Solenoid is very hot to the touch. Battery checked for proper voltage and had it load tested, no apparent problem there. Could I have a bad solenoid switch on starter?

Is there more than one terminal on the starter for the 50 wire? Do you have the ground wire on the transmission hooked up to chassis?

And are those ground wire contact points really clean? I'd clean the one in the trunk from the battery to the chassis too.

Good luck.

no start condition.

All,

Only 1 terminal on my starter, yellow wire, has 12VDC in start position. Ground hooked up from trans to body. Starter worked fine before I removed engine/trans. Will check voltage drops tonight. Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks,Bob
