Want to match 85 Euro Carrera Exhaust note

Have 88 3.2 Carrera. Would like to match friends 85 Euro 3.2 exhaust note. Are they different mufflers or do the motors themselves sound that different? As far as we can tell, both cars are stock.

I would guess your car has a Catalytic converter and his car has a Euro Pre Muffler. Ditch the cat and get a MK Pre-Muffler (my 2 cents).

+1 but....

You don't list your location so throwing on a premuffler may not be an option if you have testing for registration.

Do the mufflers look different? His muffler may an aftermarket version that appears stock.

There is an unlimited (well almost)option of mufflers and premufflers and cat bypasses available, not to mention the people who fabricate their own setup ...

Plenty of good reading on this site if you are contemplating a replacement !

Cheers !

The Euro 3.2 also has a higher compression ratio.

Thanks for the replies

Sorry for the incomplete question.

Both have (had) Cats (CA cars though the Euro was imported and "federalized")

Both mufflers appear to be the same.

I have recently installed MK bypass prior to chipping. Not much change in sound. A very nice piece that I am happy with. The Euro is still much throatier but not what I would call louder.

This left me wondering if Euro muffler might be a different part or if the different motors would sound that different.

I tried different search wording combinations prior to posting but couldn't get the right combo I guess. Thanks to you all - such a great site...

Understand that what is inside his muffler could have been "made better".

I don't believe the Euro spec mufflers are different than US versions.

The compression will change the note as well as if any mods were done to the muffler.

The easy fix is to install a new muffler or modify your stock part. there are many choices obviously but since you already have the M+K bypass their 1in1out muffler would be a logical choice. Your friend will then want YOUR exhaust note!!
