Replace shifter bushings?

Is it possible to replace the shifter bushings without removing the console? This is for a 1986 Carrera.

Thanks,
Bernie

No. Shifter housing must be removed to access both the ball cup bushing and the shift rod bushing. Removing shifter housing requires removing console to get access to allen-head cap screws..

OTOH, R&R of shift coupler bushings (behind/between front seats) does not require console removal.
