early 911-crunchy reverse

I have noticed lately that it is getting difficult to engage reverse gear after a long drive when the car is good and warm. It just seems to grind the syncro. Getting into reverse when the car is cold does not seem to be a problem. Also, if I start the car clutch in with reversed engaged, no problem.

Does this sound like a clutch or transmission problem to you guys?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Reverse grinding is usually indicative of a clutch dragging, meaning it is never fully disengaging, and that usually means a worn disk, worn out and partly-fractured and stretching clutch cable, or maladjusted clutch freeplay.

i'd recommend always depressing the clutch and putting the car into third, fourth, or fifth gear before going into reverse. my gearbox used to grind going from the forward gears, stopping and putting it in reverse, but it never does when i put it in say, third, then going into reverse. give it a whirl.

Thanks Warren (still embarrased though). That would make sense about the dragging clutch. I just redid the pedal cluster. Maybe it needs some adjustment.

Raymond, I tried that when I was trying to get the car backed into the driveway. No luck.
