Porsche Crest Look at my belly!

Bought my 83 911SC with ~65k mi back in February. Posted a few times and have been helped a lot. Now I'm gonna put some of my fancy learnin' to use. If everything goes as planned I'm gonna be giving the p-car a complete tune-up tomorrow. Or at least start.

I got her up on ramps tonight and crawled underneath. I was a little surprised at how "wet" she looks. Had a PPI done at the time of purchase by the local Porsche dealership. Knew I had a little leak. I get a tiny spot on the garage floor from time to time.

I figured if I posted some pics either some of you will reassure me or tell me I need to check something out further, so here goes...

That's just sweat.......give her a spritz with engine Gunk and a spray.

Check back after a good ride......probably a leak on top.

Nothing is screaming for attention that I can see,

Put a new gasket on the sump access port when you change the oil. Clean the hoses off etc and get back under it after a week of driving and begin to isolate the leaks. I have seeping at one hose end. It has been like that for 10 years. Over a week or two a quarter size spot will develop on the floor. Just depends on how fussy the owner is whether to change or not.

Put new gaskets and hardware on the valve covers if you adjust the valves. Double check snugness on the chain box covers, etc.

bottom looks just like mine ... leak at the triangle ...

that drip off the oil line though ... I would worry about that one first ...

Triangle leaks are well documented here ... partial engine drop or remove intake system to just pull engine and make it a winter to do list .

clean engine

OK, drive the car, get the engine hot, spray it with some simple green, let it sit for a while, then spray / wash it down and locate the leak.

The seepage looks perfectly normal. Your exhaust studs and nuts are getting extra crispy. What climate did your car come from?

It's been in Hotlanta since 2000. Prior to that it was somewhere in central North Carolina.

I have a new set of gaskets for the valve covers. The nuts and washers that come with the valve cover gasket kit are meant to be single use. Is it the same for the sump access plate?

Looks just like mine underneath, the leaks drive me crazy, but I guess she is just marking her turf.

Mine looked like that for three years until i replaced the $6.00 dollar oil pressure switch on the top forward part of the engine and cut off 4 inches from my crakcase breather hose and re- clamped it...
(All items referred to as the triangle of death)

A couple hours of labor but well worth it !

Cheers !

Found the leak after I cleaned the underside with Gunk as Joe Bob suggested. Just waiting until the next oil change to do it. Also bought a can of BG44K that I'm gonna run through prior to the oil change.

I've been re-organizing the garage and my tools the last two weekends so I'll have more room to work on the car. That led to the decision to paint while I'm at it. That led to using the epoxy stuff that is supposed to seal the floor so now fixing the leak has suddenly become more important because everything else looks so good now.

When people said you could spend a lot of money on your car they weren't kidding!

If you can jump across the puddle on the floor, that ain't a leak.

Credit Cornpanzer here then. He made me laugh hard with that one on the first R gruppe Midwest to Sonoma drive, back in 2006.
