Question bad week

My 83 sc targa duck tail would not open , Worked on it for some time got it opened and adjusted . Took the p car out for a spin this after noon, heard a knocking sound ,then I could no longer see the traffic behind me , (white smoke every where coming out from the exhaust) Looks like maybe new motor. If so should I rebuild the 3 litre or go bigger? Hope the rest of the week goes better.

This can get ugly and expensive quick. Find out what's wrong first, make sure rebuild is required. Rebuild is at least 10K unless you do it yourself. Just redid a 3.0 and it cost me close to 14 by the time it was done. Could have gotten a lot more motor for that kind of cash. Would I do it again? Probably not, even though I love my SC, I now view it as my "starter Porsche". I'll never get the close to 30K I've got in, back out. The real positive thing about the rebuild is you've got no what ifs, like you may with a larger used engine, if that was the line of thought you had.

No one would ever expect to get what they spend back from a new car...why expect it from a Porsche. A quality rebuild is expensive, but should buy another 150k thrilling miles in one of the finest automobiles ever built. Pretty fair trade in my humble opinion.

Where are you in Toronto?

Pull off the large hose on the left side of the filler neck and check to see if there a lot of oil in it. There is a baffle inside the hose so if it flooded with oil there should still be plenty in the hose. Just bend it downwards over a small container to catch any oil that may come out.
