Starter Problem
I recently had to change out the starter on my 68 911T. I ordered a starter from our host & got it installed. Turned the key & the new starter worked like a champ. After getting everything cleaned up & put away I thought it was time to take a ride. Turned the key & click - click. Tryed it a few more times & after a few more clicks the starter turned over. Went down to the to gas station for some go juice & upon getting back into the car turned the key & click - click. What the !!!!
Turned the key a few more times & after a few more clicks the starter tuned over. Went home checked & cleaned the battery terminals & ground & tried to start the car, click - click. After a few more turns of the key the starter turns over. I figure a bad starter, it happens. Called our host & no problem another starter is on the way. I get the new starter, get it installed & I have the same S... just a different day. Now what are the odds, 2 bad starters? So I figure something else has to be wrong but I just don't know what. Anyone have some suggestions? What am I missing? |
Clean the ground strap at the front of the trans. that goes to the body.
Don't just look at it and say that it looks good ,remove it clean and re-install. |
That was going to be my next course of action. Thanks for the reply.

very true. go check the ground strap. easy and no harm anyways.
my starter got weak so i changed battery. no change. checked the ground strap and the body side nut was tad loose. removed, cleaned, reinstalled, and now back in business. i guess the battery change was unnecessary but the battery was 4+ years old and could have gone bad soon anyways... |
