Odd noise after shutdown

I did a search but could not find anything...not really sure what to search for anyway. Here's the issue, the last two times I drove the car after shut down I hear a sharp "TINK" sound, almost like a metallic tap on a wine bottle. It's very distinct and I've never heard it before and I only hear the "tink" 6-8 times then it stops. About 5-10 seconds between tinks. Note that it's been well over 100 here in Dallas and I noticed this after a good amount of in town driving where the temp guage creeps up to about the "8:30" position. I can manually turn on the fan and bring the temps down a bit but I don't know what this sound is or if it's something to worry about. After shutting if off tonight I was moving around the car to localize but but could not tell anything other than it seem to be coming from the engine but was bouncing off the garage floor so no telling exactly where it was. Anyone experience this?
TIA

My guess... Metal expansion/contraction. Very common to hear noises after the engine is off and is cooling down.

Does it occur when the engine is turned off before being run long enough to get warm?

This has only happened after fairly long in town drives in EXTREMELY hot weather, 103-105 ambient temps. The engine gets pretty hot but stays just below the horizontal or 9'oclock position on the temp guage, basically just even between what I think are approximately the 200 and 225 marks. I notice this immediately after turning the engine off and only for about 60-90 seconds(?). Very sharp clink or tink, hard to describe, sound. Not like the normal sounds I usually hear after shut down which tend to be a little more quiet and muffled.

Thanks...I'll find something else to worry about, like why my a/c sucks so bad.
