Hershey Trip Roll Call
Ok, lets do a roll call one more time before the trip starts. Leave on Friday, do the swap meet on Saturday, return Sunday.
It's about a 10 hour trip depending on speed so we need to leave between 7:30 - 8:00. Up 85 to Charlotte, 77 North to 81 and north to Hershey. Stop at Roanoke, Virgina. Mileage approximately 711 miles should arrive at about 6:30 in the evening The Econo Lodge @ 115 Lucy Ave, Hershey Pa has rooms available - just called them - 717-533-2515 - rate 70.00 per night double occupancy. Make reservations now - sharing a room would reduce the rate in half. Lets get the list together now so we can plan it. Need to move quickly. Steve |

Steve -
Just in case the Econo Lodge fills up I made reservations at the Fairway Motel (717-533-5179) for $59 and it is supposedly less than 2 miles from the park entrance. The Mrs. and I will be arriving late Friday from Northern Virginia. Please let us all know if you organize anytype of get together during the day on Saturday. Otherwise will the Southern Pelicanheads be wearing anything to designate themselves as board members?

Thanks for the info Doug. Once we establish who is going, we can plan where to hook up with the travlers and where to meet at Hershey.

I should be o.k. to go. May I make a suggestion that we ALL buy a pelican parts t-shirt or polo to wear at the swapmeet for identification purposes and for some group photos. It's only fair-Pelican Parts did hook us all up in the 1st place. Let's give them some business, who knows, maybe Wayne will throw us a bone and give us a little discount

If anyone between Atlanta and Pa wants to join in, we need info on your location so we can plan to meet you along the way.
If we all stay at the same hotel, then that will work out for the best. Lets try for the Fairway Motel as a first option. Steve |

Hershey Swap Meet
FYI, we stay at the Comfort Inn in Hershey, PA.
$75.95 night and they have a heated in-door pool for the kids to enjoy. I'm suprised Pelican Parts doesn't have a booth at Hershey. I think they could do a ton of business!

I'm still planning on going and would like to hook up with as you pass through Charlotte that Friday. Won't know for sure until I recheck the finances after goint to the 12 Hours of Sebring this weekend.
Thanks for the hotel info. Tom:

Just made reservations for the trip. There are still rooms available at the Econo Lodge (which is actually the Fairway) Spoke with Todd 1-717-533-5179 just to repeat the info that Doug E posted.
So far the group is as follows: not alphabetically Carnut169 - Atlanta, GA Stuttgart - Ohio BlkBird - Atlanta, GA Tigertrash - York, Pa Cegeret - Michigan Clnilsen - Akron Oh 70flatsix - Delaware Doug E - Herndon VA R22tech - Atlanta, GA Stormcrow - Atlanta, GA Racemore - Charlotte, NC 83SC in Pa - Camphill, Pa Orlando_deke - Orlando FL As the date gets I will have trip map outline and stops. Do have a couple of two radio's we can use for the group. Should be a fun trip. If any of the PA group knows of a staging area we can meet the morning of the swapmeet by all means let us know. It will be a good opportunity to meet other Pelican Heads from distant lands and take group photos. Steve Last edited by stormcrow; 03-13-2002 at 01:28 PM.. |

For those of us in NC, there are a couple of good sized rest areas on I-77 that might make good meeting spots. After a 4 hour drive out of Atlanta you all might be ready for break. When the time gets closer and we know how many Charlotte vs. Winston area drivers we have we can pick something more specific.

We'll look forward to seeing you all there.
For you overnighters there is a decent Best Western and Hilton Garden Inn nearby. Just outside on rt 322 there is a Bob Evans and a McD's on the left at the last light to meet up. Looking forward to this event as the 930 engine is out and being dis-assembled for topend. Hopefully, I'll be breaking in on the way up. from Sterling, VA

Count me in, plan on heading up Fri around noon. In keeping with Navy tradition I will wait until the absolute last possible moment to figure out where I am staying and how to get there. Am debating whether to drive the minivan in case I find some really good stuff!!

There is a really neat place called the Soda Jerk in Hummelstown about a mile from Hershey on Rt. 322. It's off the Hummelstown/Middletown exit. Lots of car clubs frequent the place, they have a decent sized parking lot and best of all really great homestyle food and ice cream.. ![]()

Seems like the Fairway Motel 717-533-5179 and the Econo Lodge 717-533-2515 are the favorite places to stay.
Here is the trip schedule. For those of you who are unable to join in, we can all meet at Hershey. There have been some suggestions to meet at the hotel or at The Soda Jerk in Hummelstown. We can decide as the date gets closer. I will try to keep the schedule simple - Leave Friday Morining April 19, and return on Sunday April 21 Depart 7:30 AM Atlanta (I 85) to Charlotte, NC (I 77) (approx 3 hrs) (Approx 220 Mi) (Gas up?) @10:30 AM Charlotte, NC (I 77) N to I 81N Va onto Virgina (No Radar Detectors)To Roanoke VA (approx 3 hrs) (Approx 184 Mi) (Gas Up) (Lunch) @ 1:30 PM-2:30PM I-81 North to Winchester (approx 2.5 hrs)(Approx 174 Mi)(Gas Up) @ 5:00 PM I-81 North through West Virginia, through Maryland and north onto Hershey Pa. (approx 134 Mi)(approx 2.0 hrs) Arrive @ 6:45 PM - 7:00 PM or there about. Plan on leaving at 7:30 am from I-85 Indian Trail Park & Ride. If you want to meet earlier for breakfast, we can do that. Stops planned along the way are at larger cities. Roanoke would be a good place for Lunch. Not much in between from Charlotte to Roanoke. The schedule is not written in stone so if anyone wants to make suggestions, e-mail me and I will post any changes. For those of you who want join in on the trip up, let me know where, and at what time. If you want to get in touch with me directly, e-mail me and I will give you my CP Number. For those of us on the trip we can list our cp numbers and make copies for everyon who is going on the trip, so please e-mail me your number so I can make a list. If anyone has any other suggestions, by all means please let me know. Meanwhile, I will keep this post going for a few more days and again when the trip date gets near. Looks like we have a convoy - who's got the rubber duckey? Will update the list of those who are going again soon. Regards Steve . Last edited by stormcrow; 03-13-2002 at 03:01 AM.. |

I hope to be able to catch a ride with osidak and join everyone. I should be able to work out the details soon.
Anyone plan to bring an FRS radio? I have a couple and think it might be neat to have the group tune into a specific channel and chat on the way. --- Will Ballance '82 911SC coupe |
