Charcoal Canister??
I have a 77 911S and I am trying to find the part number for what I believe is a charcoal canister (located on the rt side of the eng. bay). I need to replace mine that was burnt due to a small airbox fire.
Thanks!! -Dave |

On that note, can I just take mine out of my 72? Is it really doing anything after 29 yrs.?

Charcoal cannister PN for '77 is 171.201.801
If you need the clamp or bracket the number is 911.501.425.00. These parts may be NLA. You may also check Parts Heaven in California for a used one. Removing the cannister will just increase the fuel vapor emissions from the engine/fuel system. If you remove the cannister be sure and plug the lines or ports on the engine as some of them communicate to the fuel induction system after the air filter. Cheers. Jim |

Yes, you can take it out. It has absolutely no effect on anything but what vapor leaks out of the fuel tank.

The only qualification I would make to the non-issue of removing the charcoal cannister is it may be on the visual inspection checklist of a smog check for later model cars. Then if it is missing the car may fail the inspection. The board's "smog nazi" may be able to confirm or deny this. Jim
