I gave the SC an Italian tuneup
And it's running MUCH better now.
It's got that real "get up and go" feel again. |

Italian tune up = Take it for a "spirited" drive... Or "rev the nuts of it" "take it for a thrash"
It actually works. The 911 was built to be driven, hard! ![]()

Lots of near the red line under load. There is a hill here leading to a town called Wainuiomata with three lanes each side so lots of room LOL. I gave it plenty in second and third. Lots of revs and holding it there while under load. It feels like a 911 again

I did the same to my SC the other day... fresh tank of non ethanol gas and a bottle of techron and took it out in the country.

When I got mine the PO had driven it very conservatively. It was slow and didn't accelerate worth a dam. I started driving the piss out of it and it responded and improved dramatically. These cars need to be wound out regularly.

Why is that? I've heard the same thing that they should be driven hard once fully warmed up, but what is actually happening that is beneficial? Deposits burning off? Improved piston ring sealing? Just curious...

Deposits yeah...
Pistons, valves, fuel injectors, ports... a rigorous shaking of the valves with a near constant stream of fuel can clean things up. Also gets the EGT nice and hot to expel carbon deposits that may have built up in the exhaust ports. If you go too long between clean ups then they won't help much as the crud becomes too thick to move. Goes not only for Porsche but your neighbors beige Toyota Camry.

Not nearly as much fun but to each his own. Just be sure it is warmed up and the neighbors aren't armed.

Haha, good pic Bob. Yes the racetrack is between the two arrows and the crest is where the fire break is in the middle. It has quite a number of curves that don't show up. It was all 2nd gear and third gear. I had my eye on the road (and the other cars

A few years back I was service manager at a dealership. We were having problems with certain cars getting gummed up and kicking check engine lights/codes. I sent an email to the techs suggesting the factory's repair advice, and said it was essentially to do an Italian Tune Up. A technician of Italian extraction took offense to this and reported me to HR. I always considered it an admirable term connoting mechanical common sense! John in CT.

My Italian friend Bruce (doesn't sound very Italian to me) was quite flattered when I told him what an Italian tuneup is. He's a Moto Guzzi fan, born in Venice.
