Hi,
while getting out of a gas station last week, i went over a speed bump. As usual I took it very slowly (<2mph) and sideways. Unfortunately, that speed bump was very tall, and very skinny. I heard a scraping sound from the back right side. I took a look and couldn't figure out what had scraped. Warning to the LA drivers: speed bumps located at the Chevron station at the corner of Jefferson and Overland right behind the car wash. STAY AWAY! So I jacked up the car today, and noticed the sway bar have move side to side about 1". It is probably bent... could it be bent back? FYI, the part that scraped was a bold holding the bottom of the sway bar to the trailing arm. Not too much damage to it actually. Now looking a little closer, it seems the sway bar is on relocating brackets. If I'm going to start taking thing apart to install a new sway bar, could you guys let me know if you think it's an after market sway bar or it was just relocated lower for better handling? see pictures attached. ![]() ![]() Thanks for your help!

Put car on a level surface, disconnect one drop link, if there is no preload, bolt it back up, or adjust the drop link.
I'd lose those mounts and use the factory ones. |

What you have is a aftermarket sway bar set up, Weltmeister from the looks, they are a bit agricultural looking, like they should be on a 50's Furgison tractor or similar.
The good & the bad for you right now is they can move around after mounted, which will allow you to move it back into position and re tighten it. The hose clamps are to keep your bushings in place and to try to keep the bar from moving around from (left to right). move them back closer to the bushings after the bar is centered back up. I think Joe Bob was having a bit of humor, you should never heat the sway bar as it will loose the temper rendering it useless. If / when you do upgrade you should check out the Wevo rear sway bar mount, very solid piece, the factory mounts are known to bend and tear off as you get into stiffer bars. Regards |

Wevo mount: thanks for the tip. Do they mount on the original factory bolts that I pointed to in the drawings? |

The part you pointed to tears off.
I am not really trying to knock the Weltmeister unit I have one on a 66 912 with a 16mm bar (19mm front) and it holds up pretty good, I think that would be about their limit. The 71 911 will get the Wevo mount this winter for a 19mm bar Regards |
