Any luck with windshield polishing for micro pits?
My front glass looks like it was the victim of a sanded winter road - it has micro pits that cover the entire front glass -
Has anyone used a polishing kit (Eastwood or other) with any success? Just trying to explore less expensive options before dropping $400 + seal on a new piece of glass.

I've used Brasso metal polish on beat up watch crystals before, worked great. For a windshield? I don't see why not, as long as the 'polishing' is even/consistent. Then RainX or whatever it's called to coat.

Bon Ami is a light cleanser abrasive....I had luck back in the day using it with a clean cotton towel.
Too deep, then replace. |

I took mine to a guy who "specialized" in auto glass polishing. He had some very impressive looking equipment that used a suction device to attach it to the windshield. He started it up and after a minute it fell off. He tried it again and it fell of. After spewing polishing compound on my car, falling off twice and creating an aberration on my windshield he claimed he was out of compound and would call me when more came in. He didn't charge me and hasn't called me for months. Since my windshield was already at the point where I wanted to replace it I didn't sue him for a new one but was not impressed with what he tried to do or the outcome.

I have been told that polishing clay works a treat for polishing windscreens.

pits are just that. more than a surface haze. they're there for the duration.

replace. some say it's a wear item and need replacement every few years and tend to agree. in most cases, insurance covers.

Watch crystals and auto glass are two totally different materials.
Clay is great for cleaning the glass surface to get grime off but won't do anything for pits. I clay my windshield (and then clean it with Invisible Glass) before applying Rain-X. If the pits can be detected by your fingernail then you won't be able to polish it out without creating distortion in the glass.
