Wow. If there was ever a question about them trying to make this thing into a GT, they've surely been put to rest. Looks like a mercedes, shaped like a 911. Are they that hard up for production lines that they needed to soften and enlarge the 911 this much? I thought the panamera was the GT in the lineup.

And what's with the tail? What are they going to do next, print the owner's manual on it?

This upsets me.

Sure seems like that is the plan - I bet they pull the Boxter twins up market and bring a new entry car out.

This looks like a 2 door Panamera. The 997 styling was somewhat of a relief after the 996. The ONLY thing I like better about this car over the 997 is that it's lighter. Finally, the Cayman and Boxster are more appealing to me than a new 911.

Looks pretty good to me...

...but not good enough to bump a 997 GT3 off my savings plan.

Not real fond of the "skirt" below the rear license plate and I think the tail lights are too Aston-Martin-ish.

Still, not a bad looking 911. Front end looks ok and the rear buttresses are bit of a nice touch from the Cayman

I'd say they nailed it. Anyone want to buy an '05 997S in about 6 years?

The new 971 will dwarf our old air-cooled 911's.
Germaniacs

Need to add an old 911 to this image, scaling it will be tricky.

Maybe somebody else can show the width difference.

That's what it is. The 928 didn't replace the 911, the 911 is just finally getting to where the 928 was. That rear end almost looks big enough to stuff in a V-8

Looks like the transformation is almost complete -
928 length = 4,524mm; new 911 = 4491mm
928 width = 1,890mm; new 911 = 1,808mm
928 wheelbase = 2,499mm; new 911 = 2,450mm
928 front track = 1,552mm; new 911 = 1,538mm
928 rear track = 1,615mm; new 911 = 1,516mm (weird this is less than the front)

Great comparison. Notice part of the sc length is bumperete!

People already stuff v8 in the old body, so this is a done deal. Maybe a future GT3??
