2.7 L conversion to 3.0 L
I am looking for advise for converting my 2.7 to a 3.0 in my 77 911s. What is required in order to do the conversion. Any tips and/or references would be appreciated.

You trying to build a 2.7 motor into a 3.0? In brief, that's a non starter - the cylinder head stud spacing of the 3.0 95mm cylinders doesn't work on the 2.7 case. If you are talking about dropping the 2.7 motor out and transplanting a 3.0 in, there's plenty of threads on the subject - try searching for 'engine transplant' using the search tools.

2.8 or maybe 2.9 is all youre going to get on a 2.7. 3.0 is the new casting from Porsche in 76.
Spending that kind of money for those cylinders you might buy a 3.0 and be done with it. Bruce |
Are you saying you want to replace your engine with a factory 3.0L or increase the displacement of the existing 2.7L to create a 3.0L?
The former has been done by many and there's a lot of information about it via a search here on the forums. The latter is not possible because the bores in the 2.7 magnesium case do not allow for an increase in size to accept the 95mm cylinders. You can make a 2.8L out of a 2.7L but that's about as large as you want to get, so you leave some thickness in the case to provide ample support for the head studs Whoops............ Dave and Bruce know more and type faster than I think.... |
Sorry for not being clear. I am swapping a 3.0 for the 2.7
