1985 carrera axle question

Im rebuilding my axles/CV assemblies. i dont know much about the history of this vehicle. when i removed the 2 axles from the vehicle i noticed that the CV boots didnt have clamps on the small side the large end dont use them because of the design that 911 uses. My question is "is it common for there not to be clamps on the inside or small end of the CV boot"

They should have clamps but I have heard of some racers leaving them off so the boot can move more freely.

For a street car, some guys use zip ties, left a bit loose.
