Question Warped new rotors at DE? now OK?

At my second DE event on Sunday my car's brakes felt as though I had warped the front rotors. The catch is the seem fine now.

Towards the end of the middle session (2 of 3), the pedal and steering wheel would vibrate when I would brake any where from 110 or 80 down to 60 mph. I even could hear the driver front tire occassionally locking or pulsing (similar to a car with ABS - which mine does not have) but never a full lock up. During the last session the pedal seemed to vibrate less and the tires were holding up better b/c it was cooler. The rotors and pads are new with about 2,000 miles on them and this was their second DE. The weather was sunny and about 85F at peak. Could the rotors warped a little and now are ok when cool? Or could this be a result of lousy track and crappy tires. The track was Nelson Ledges and the tires are BFG Comp TA VR4s that I was trying to destroy. They got hot and squirely but never chunked.

Yesterday I took the car out and accelerated to about 85 before entering an offramp and the brakes were fine. No vibrating. Was I not going fast enough? Was the vibrating at the track due to the tires? Any thoughts?

Why are you taking your car to Nelson Ledges? Did you know that a Recent Issue of "European Car" magazine voted Nelson Ledges the "Crummiest track in America". Your car deserves better. Joking aside, I have been there once, (and only once). Did you change pads at all? Track to street? You may have got a glazing on them from improper heating during breakin. The glazing gives some areas of the rotors uneven friction coefficients causing tht pulsing you feel. Mine had them for a while when I changed from street to track pads, but has since dissapeared when the pads properly bed. Check you rotors for even wearing and appearence. Next track event use track pads that are more aggresive and don't glaze. Also, go to Mid-Ohio and skip Nelsons!!!

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like it was brake pad related and I hope only temporarily. I will have to pull the wheels to check for anything unusual.

The pads and rotors all all relatively new with about 2,000 miles on them and this was there second DE.

I know Nelsons stinks but it's close at only a half our from my house and my friends in the BMW club said they could get me in last minute.

With some new pavement and indoor plumbing, Nelson's wouldn't be half bad. Currently, I think it is treacherous. Too many pavement changes. There will be a new track opening not to far from you in Pittsburgh called BeaveRun. I hope it is a better track than its name!

Everyone in Northern Ohio is looking forward to BeaveRun. (It has a website Beaverun.com with one "r") The track looks like it will be similar to VIR with North and South loops, one long connected track and a kart track. I believe it just broke ground in June and will open spring '02

By the symptoms you report it is almost definately pad material deposition on the rotor surface. This is very common with Pagid Orange pads when the bedding procedure is not followed exactly.
