Thumbs up Thumbs up for OT!!!

I just spent the last five minutes looking for the OT board - I can't find it.

I like having one 911 place with all the great stories and stupid questions (What's your favorite COLOR OF PORSCHE UnderoosŪ?).

This is the best part of Pelican - Rennlist is boring. Pelican is a non-stop free-for-all.

Instead of booting the posts, how about marking them as OT, and letting the user decide if they want to read 'em. Or Wayne can put in a widget that turns off the OTs. If the scope of this board is too narrow, it won't be any fun.

P.S. even if you're anti-OT, you've gotta like Roland's chauffeur story!

I looked for a long time, like five minutes! I always get in the board from the list on the left column on the home page.

But there is another page I didn't know about. What I needed was a picture...

P.S. Wayne "dude"ed me! This is the happiest day of my life!

Bill-dude,
It's just 2 clicks away!
Look at the top right hand corner of this page.
You should see something like this:
*folder image* Pelican Parts Bulletin Boards
*folder image* Porsche 911 Tech. forum
*folder image* Thumbs up for OT!!

Click on "Pelican Parts Bulletin Boards"
Scroll down to the Miscellanous section
and click on "Off Topic Rantings"

And there you are! Hope this helps...
-Zoltan.

I gotta agree with Bill (aka. Dude). Letting the focus go outside of technical makes this board a lot of fun.

When Rennlist switched to UBB last month a lot of Pelican regulars went over to check it out, expecting it to become another Pelican. It hasn't.

The 911 board on rennlist gets about 10 posts a day. Very dry, all business, very little fun.

Now, you don't see those Pelican regulars over at Rennlist much. They all came back.

Wayne, you have a good formula here. Don't fix what isn't broke.

I think the guideline should be that if the word "Porsche" appears in the post, then it is acceptable. Else, it should be moved.

Everyone can read the titles and decide which posts to view. There are plenty of technical posts.

One mans opinion.

If you click the "Tech Board" heading about halfway down the navigation on the home page, you will go to the main BBS listing.

I usually go directly to the 911 or 944 BBS from the links under "Tech Forums" rather than having to scroll down farther to the Tech Board links. What about using hierarchal expanding menus like MSDN to compress the navigation? You could do a pretty simple DHTML version. If the link to the main boards listing was near the top of the home page and didn't require the extra click to get through the "Click here to enter our bulletin board" page, I'd probably go to the main board listing every time, and be more inclined to look at the other boards. Maybe that's why no one visits the OT board, you have to scroll and travel a longer click-path to get to it--much easier to just click straight to the 911 BBS. Just a thought...

I'm going to concur. Enough locking threads/moving threads/making interesting content go bye-bye. There's no use for it and it just makes you like like a moderation nazi, Wayne. No offense.

OT posts make this board fun and account for a tiny fraction of the on-topic content.

Hell, you have more OT content in smileys.
