Velocity stacks quick question
 

Hi I have a quick question about putting Velocity stacks on a street engine. Would it be a bad idea to put stacks on a daily driven car?? I know because there would be no filtration of dirt and other miscellaneous things flying in that I could hurt the engine but i see a lot of people on here with stacks. I just want your guys opinion. It would be on a 2.4L 72. also would you gain much air flow for power?

I'd put K&N's on it. You'll get much more intake noise, better access to top of engine and good air flow into existing horns. I can't verify from my own experience but have read from various sources that smaller engines get all the air they need from the OEM air filter/cleaner assy. If you were racing and needed 6000+ RPM for maximum HP then open intakes may be good. You would also need to filter the air going into thew top of your throttle body with air screens or other method to keep small road debris from clogging your idle jets.

Open intakes sure do look good.

Ingesting environmental objects into the combustion chamber isn't good practice or even a good idea, even for a race engine. Put a sock (better yet, a filter) on it. :)
