Help on 911 differences from 1974 to 1989

Hello all

I am new here.
I am finally starting to seriously look for my first 911 and was wondering if there was any chassis/body shell differences on 911 built between 1974 to 1989.
Besides trims , engines, rust protection and few other things it seems to me the shell and suspension set up(pick up point...) is basically the same on all those cars.
Am I wrong ?

Thanks.

Hi welcome to the best 911 BBS on earth. You will find folks here most helpful.

Try Peter Zimmerman's "The Used 911 Story" and Wade Gutheires FAQ here (Pelican Parts: 911 FAQ Version 2.2) to get an idea of the cars.

IMHO, the best all-in-one resource for the info you say you want is

To a very great extent, you are right. There are minor differences here and there but for the most part the '74-'89 911s all can be grouped into one lot. Our host does that in the parts catalog, for instance.

flares / rust protection / welded jacking points / fuel pump location / trim / pop out rear windows...

From 1974 to 1989 - they tended to go from more simple to more complex (relatively) and lighter to more weight (and comfort)
