Question ...something just ain't right...

...so last night, after an argument with my better half, i went for a drive...it was a beautiful l.a. evening...on hwy 101 through hollywood, i get cut off by a beater pick-up truck, loaded with lawnmowers, blowers, suckers, and all else one can dangle from the skeleton of a home-made, somehow bent, truck camper-rack...i swerved, then he they swerved, and then all that dangled swerved...something - a small gas can, small tool box - something came off and became "roadkill," along with a third of my front rubber spoiler on my 1988 carrera cab...so im livid, and thats putting it puritanically...a couple minutes later, the engine starts humping the road, feeling like it does when you are learning to drive a clutch for the very first time, and everyone is watching...like it feels when your car is gasping for some fuel that has run dry because you forgot 50 miles ago that you were low..downshift into 4th, drive conservatively, and its good...and i get home...this morning its faltering still in acceleration of any aggression...i have plenty of fuel, fluids are all good, belts are as they should be, and there are no lights on to warn the idiot...
...any suggestions would be immediately appreciated and approached...
thanks,
AaRoN

Have you examined the underside of the gas tank? If your chin spoiler was damaged badly, whatever you hit was tall enough to have also hit your gas tank. Just behind the tank is a skid plate, but that part is pretty strong and protects the fuel pump. The tank could be damaged, and not leak; if possible get the car on a lift and take a good look!

Is your fuel pump up along the front axle line?

Does the motor revs go up fine while in neutral? Faltering under load can be a vacuum leak or restricted fuel line. If its only when driving maybe you have something binding causing rolling resistance?

I'd look very close, front to back, underneath.

Aside: reseat that DME relay.

Best!

Do you have an acid bath battery? I had mine do exactly what you're saying after swerving hard thru a curve. Seems the plates in the battery hit each other and caused said condition.

so was it a new battery that solved the issue - i have the car up, have followed the fuel line front to back, cleaning here and there as i go, and whatever i hit also slightly damaged a couple of the saddle brackets that guide the lines along the underbelly..not so much as to restrict a large amount of flow, but who knows...thanks for the DME idea and the battery consideration...i spose im learning the late carrera, system by system, idiosyncracy by idiosyncracy, and dollar by almighty dolla!!!
