80 911SC turned off on freeway..

Hello guys, I am new on this site and would like to thank everybody's input on here. This site has helped me a lot! Seriously, "search" button is your friend.

So I just got home from dropping my girlfriend off. Ran into a little trouble.
On my way home I opened up the throttle a bit on the onramp. It ran strong and smooth. As I'm merging lanes the Pcar starts to lose power. I'm no expert but it seemed like it was not getting enough gas. My foot was on the gas and it was slowing down. I started merging into the slow lane. My lights were on. they didn't dim. It seems weird because I even downshifted to second and "popped" the clutch to get her going again and nada. I got lucky enough to cruise it off the freeway and only pushed the car onto a street. First thing I did as soon as I was safe and out of the way I looked up the symptoms on Pelican through my phone. The car cranked and seemed to want to start but just didn't. I found a post on "trouble starting". It wasn't the ignition wires. I looked at the fuse box in the trunk and yes...one of the fuses was loose. Yes. Loose! It came out of place (round black fuse). I put it back in place. Made sure it was tight. Tried to start the car and she did! Started right up!

I thank those of you who have passed their experiences on through this site. It helped me get home tonight.

Sam

Isn't the fuel pump relay the round red one?

Or am I getting my memories jumbled up in my older age.

no you are not getting them mixed up. As far as I know both will work but the red is important in relation to the diode inside. I am presuming that balck is the fuel pump but has some sort of parallel diode whereas the red had a diode installed. They was an excellent post from Warren Hall somewhere here, I must see if I can find it. I am assuming from the problem description and the comment on loosing power that the black relay was situated where the red relay normally is. I may be wrong but thats one for the elecrtronic experts here

Seach is your friend. Here was the black v red post

More Obscure Electrical Brain Teasers

and here is some more on the issue

930 fuel pump relays, red or black

Glad you got it fixed so easily. Now you need to either tape the fuse in or bend the prongs outward slightly. Otherwise, you will have the same problem in about a month.
