New Motor for my Narrow Body
Well, I finally made the move on a motor for my '72 T.
At first I planned to rebuild my previoulsy "rebuilt" 2.7 (from a certain So Cal web-based "rebuilder") into a 3.0. After discovering that the case bore was oval, among other things, I pondered building a short-stroke 3.2 from a sound 3.0 case. This, of course, led to contemplation of just doing a 3.6 conversion. Finally, an opportunity arose that I could not refuse. I have made a deal on a MFI 3.2 motor built by, argueably, the best master mechanic in So Cal. This motor was built from a 930 case and carries a 2.7 crank, 906 cams, Mahle p/c set, Raceware at the heads and on the rods, pretty fresh valve work and bearing work, MFI modified for 3.2 duty by Pacific Injection, AASE valve springs, Ti retainers, boat-tailed case . . . among other things. This motor is fully sorted and is a true monster (and totally dry!) - I got a ride at the PCA time trials last Saturday in a car that weighed about what my skinny shouldered "T" weighs . . . only this car had wide flares and 11" wheels on the back! I can't imagine what this motor will do in my narrow 911 (say "smokin' ") This motor probably makes 300hp at the crank set-up with big headers and a sport style exhaust - I will run it with SSIs and an OEM style stainless Dansk at first, so the top end will get choked a bit and I should pick up some in the mid-range . . . but will be shopping for header/heat set-up with more breathing room. Will also be looking for the Holy Grail in mufflers: free flow and not too loud for a quiet neighborhood. ![]() The motor will get a dyno session in its present state. Motor should be good for 7500 rpms at peak output, and safe excursions to 8k. Anyways, the conversion starts in about a week and I will provide some pictures and reports of performance. I can hardly wait . . . Best to all! Kurt Last edited by kstar; 03-15-2002 at 11:29 PM.. |

Kurt,
This is going to make your car a TITAN! Imagine the accelleration... How are you going to modify the trans? Will it cope with the extra twist of that 300bhp 3.2?Damn, with MFI, that motor is going to sound SWEET!

Hey Kurt,
After what you dealt with from that MM fraudster, and the way you handled it, this new motor should be a solid gold winner. Karma is on your side! Great specs on the new power - is this a Kevin Roush engine by any chance??

Kurt that is really great news! The skinny tires with that motor sounds scary. The "short stroke" 3.2 that you mentioned as an option is similar to a friend of mines (it's the red one in the movie "Overdrive") and it was a monster. Can't wait to get your post on driving experience!

Sounds like Mark's motor from Black Forest? It will be a keeper if it is...... If I recall this motor made about 255 at the rear wheels.

Kurt,
With that motor, you could tow an SC and still cut quicker lap times than a standard 3.2! ![]() I'd say 300bhp at the crank is a conservative estimate! Please, keep us all informed! And I thought I was being silly with a S-cammed 3.0 in a narrow body!
