2.7 liter rebuild

I know this has been debated 100 times but I have a 2.7 liter that was rebuilt at 105,000 miles. It was updated with turbo valve covers, carrera tensioners, 11 blade fan, case savers, and most of the other upgrades. Since the case has been rebuilt before is it going to be rebuildable again? I'd kinda like to stay with it but If I'm better off with a 3 liter or bigger I will go that route. This rebuild has went for 96,000 miles so far and still runs strong but leaks in a few places. I really want to increase the power quite abit also. Car is a 1976 911 S.
Thanks

It all depends on how much you want to spend. If I was in your shoes, and had the money to do it, I would put a 3.6L from a 964 or 993 in there, like Thom has in his 77 widebody targa.

My question is why do you want to rebuild your 2.7? More power cannot be a good reason due to cost. Minor oil leaks can be recitified I would think at a reasonable cost.

If you have a reasonably tight 2.7 but desire more power you might do well to simply cinch up the leaks and sell the car in favor of a 3.0 or 3.2-based car. This assumes the leaks are easily repairable.

The 2.7 on the second go-'round will again need to be case-reamed if you go into the bottom end, and this is problematic at best. The 2.7 engine is quite nice as I understand it, but your goals conflict with what you can do with what you have at hand.

Maybe I am confused here...can you share a bit more information on your goals and worries on the 2.7?

The last engine died right at 105,000 miles so I'm starting to plan for a failure anytime. I bought the car recently for a real bargin and it's main purpose will but to update with a body kit and possibly some track mods to race the local scca or similar events. I want to build a engine that is up to the task and If I need to go with another block then I will do so. The engine does run strong though but it would be nice to be prepared.

If the rebuild was done 'right' then you should expect the same amount of miles out of your 2.7L as you would out of a stock 3.0L. The 2.7L can be made into a very strong and proper motor, if the case is built-up correctly...

I assume it was done well. I have been told by many that it wouldn't have lasted this long if it wasn't and being as it has all the updates I figure it should have been a quality job. I have all invoices for the car since the begining and the rebuild was performed by a reputable shop and it lists everything that was replaces and done to the motor and trans. I will rebuild it if It can be and still put out good power. I need way more than it has now. I would like to be around 250-300 hp.

If you are going to be racing the car you should consider the impact on the classification. The 2.7 is a great motor in spite of its reputation. The 3.0 or 3.2 liter is better suited for the type of horsepower you would like to achieve. However, the higher displacement options could put you in a class that you are not competitive in.

If you want that kind of HP 3.6 is a no brainer, unless you are woried about being in a certain race class.

I think I'm going to have to switch to a 3.6. They are just so expensive. Any good sources for this engine?
