Fender mount oil cooler/ Mocal or OEM?
Thinking about replacing the old trombone cooler with newer radiator style setup.
Mocal core is about 11 x 6 x 2. I don't have the size of the OEM core. Anyone with info regarding cooling capability of each? Thanks chas |

What size engine? What is your usage? Track? Street?
I had a Mocal with my 2.7 and it worked fine for both track and street. With a 3.2 liter engine, the Mocal was OK on the street, but inadequate on the track.

mocal makes multiple sizes that wil work in fender. see link below. I have the 44 row size and it is about the same size as the factory cooler.

The cooler I'm considering is for my 2000 lb, 72/911, 3.0 liter, Webers/MSD/Headers/big brakes with cool ducts/stiffened/lowered etc, etc.(occasional street, mostly track)
I don't have the core dimensions of the OEM oil cooler versus the Mocal unit. Given the same oil inlet temp and cooling air temp does the OEM or Mocal unit provide better heat transfer and oil flow. Cheers chas |

The problem with Mocal coolers (or any radiator style cooler) in the fender mount location is airflow. I had a fan on mine, but it still didn't work very well. Just like a water-cooled car's radiator, it really needs to be in direct airflow. It is hard to duct air to these things in the fender mount position.
The standard Mocal fender mount unit is approximately 5" x 10" (finned heat transfer area). As was mentioned above, Mocal sells many different sizes. I have a used one that I will sell very cheap...
